Bus Fusion – A Soggy Soirée of Souls and Sounds

Ahoy, Chaos-Navigators!

It is with the soggiest of spirits and the driest of humors that I recount to you the tale of our escapade at the Bus Fusion Festival in the quaint town of Almonte. As fate would have it, our arrival was heralded by rain—a fine, persistent drizzle that seemed intent on testing the mettle of our dear VW and its somewhat damp inhabitants.

Imagine, if you will, the grand entrance of a Volkswagen van and its crew, wheels splashing through puddles like a child in new rain boots, greeted not by the sun, but by a deluge worthy of an ark. The weekend promised to be a drenched dance of elements, and indeed it was. Yet, within this watery embrace, we found a peculiar kind of joy—a squelchy, squishy delight in the discovery of life aboard a van when the skies decide to empty their bladders upon the earth.

Among our first challenges was accommodating the enthusiastic shakes of a wet dog, turning our small square footage into a spray zone of dog-induced raindrops. Waterproofing our abode became less a task and more a battle, as we learned the art of cohabitation at close quarters.

Our most unexpected visitor was a determined turtle, who, in the midst of the festival’s chaos, chose the doorstep of our van to lay her eggs. Ten, to be exact! There we were, held hostage by a hard-shelled mother-to-be, bearing witness to a slow-motion spectacle of life unfolding at our very threshold.

Amidst the antics, we rekindled flames of friendships both old and new. A good friend and his grandson turned our Mother-Daughter T-shirts into swirling spectacles of color, their tie-dyed creations adding vibrancy to the damp drabness. Meanwhile, a university pal arrived, an anomaly in a suit and a sports car, sticking out like a sore thumb in a sea of hippies—a delightful contrast that only added to the festival’s eclectic charm. By the fire, we swayed to melodies that warmed the heart, if not the body.

No soggy story would be complete without a culinary pause, and so we met a dear friend for lunch in town. Between bites and banter, we soaked up the ambiance of Almonte that continues to shine through the showers.

In the end, Bus Fusion was a wonderful splash into our adventure. To all those who dance in downpours and find joy in the puddles, we salute you!
